Remarkably
situated on a steep promontory the Royal
Bastide of Domme, founded in the 13th century,
is one of the most renowned cities In the South-West. At the
entrance to the town, the Porte des Tours bears a moving witness to
the Knights Templar. Domme, often called the Acropolis of the
Pirigord Hoir, overlooks the magnificent valley of the Dordogne,
which meanders through the meadows where villages and farms are
scattered here and there, with wooded hills, cliffs and histotic
manor houses in the background.
